Toronto, Canada - June 27, 2023 - Don Stevenson, one of original five members of the iconic 60’s ‘California-psychedelic-folk-rock band, Moby Grape, is thrilled to announce the release of his highly anticipated album, "Limited Engagement Volume 1." The album showcases Stevenson's exceptional talent as a songwriter, with all lyrics and music composed by himself.
"Limited Engagement Volume 1" comprises a total of 11 captivating songs that highlight Stevenson's versatility and creativity.The album was recorded at two prominent studios with Tim Bovaconti of Garage Studio in Toronto, Canada, and Jamie Collins of SoundSuiteMusic in Jerusalem, Israel. Jamie Collins, a Scottish musician and acclaimed composer and producer, mastered and produced the album, while Eli Schurder engineered, and mastered the recording sessions at SoundSuiteMusic.
One of the remarkable aspects of the album's production was the innovative use of remote technology during the mastering process at SoundSuiteMusic in Jerusalem. Utilizing cutting-edge advancements, the team was able to collaborate seamlessly across continents, ensuring the highest quality and fidelity of the final product. At the core of this collaboration lies SoundSuite Music's revolutionary mastering technology. Combining state-of-the-art tools and techniques, this innovative system elevates the quality of sound production to unprecedented levels. By harnessing the power of advanced algorithms and cutting-edge software, SoundSuite Music can achieve an unrivaled level of clarity, depth, and richness in the final audio product. Two other tracks, "Shine" and "Free to Fall in Line" were recorded in the United States at Backslash and were also produced and mastered by SoundSuiteMusic in Jerusalem.
The album boasts a talented lineup of musicians who contributed to its creation. Stevenson's powerful vocals are accompanied by acclaimed Canadian singer/songwriter Jerry Leger, who also lends his voice to the project. Background vocals were provided by Don Stevenson, Tim Bovaconti, Clea Lee Errington, and Allen Soberman. Harmonies were masterfully delivered by Martin and Stephen Krilanovich, Ken Kraft, and Dale Ockerman.
The impressive array of guitars featured on the album includes performances by Tim Bovaconti, Don Stevenson, Sam Taylor, Jamie Collins, Cam Macinnes, Kenny Vaughn, Jerry Miller, Ken Craft, and Stephen Kirlanovich. Jamie Collins and Tim Bovaconti showcased their skills on the mandolin, while Tim Bovaconti is also extremely impressive on the lap steel and slide guitars.
Talented drummers Dane Clark and Jamie Collins provide the rhythms and the beats. The bass lines are expertly handled by Tim Bovaconti, Jamie Collins and Dave Roe. Adding depth and texture to the sound are Dale Ockerman, Jamie Collins, and Troy Kinnett on the piano. Jamie Collins also displayed his prowess on the fiddle and harmonica, as well as the violin, viola, cello and horns.
"Shine" and "Free to Fall in Line," two outstanding tracks on the album, were written by Dale Ockerman with lyrics by Patrick Craig. Don Stevenson delivers an impeccable vocal performance on these songs, complemented by the harmonies of Martin and Stephen Krilanovich, Ken Kraft, and Dale Ockerman. The tracks feature a stellar lineup, including David Tucker on drums and percussion, Dan Robbins on fretless bass, and a captivating guitar solo, electric sitar, acoustic guitar, and 12-string performance.
The album, arranged, played and produced by Jamie Clarkston-Collins, is set to be a musical masterpiece. Eli Schurder, the co-producer and engineer, meticulously handled the mixing and mastering process, utilizing the innovative remote technology implemented at SoundSuiteMusic in Jerusalem. The album's executive producer, Norman Evans (also from Scotland), played a crucial role in overseeing the project, along with album design and creative direction. Moby Grape biographer Cam Cobb provided insightful liner notes for the release.
